Research Experience

PhD Candidate

Centre for Computing in Science Education, Department of Physics, University of Oslo, 2017 - present
  • Building models of student choice in their undergraduate education to understand the pathways they take from freshman year to graduation.
  • Mentoring MS students.

Researcher, Developer

Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, 2016 - 2017
  • Taught course on python for geophysics students.
  • Developing tool for statistical seismology.
  • Investigating b-value correlations to physical phenomena.

Data Mining Consultant

Michigan State University, University of Colorado - Boulder, University of Tokyo, 2015 - present
  • Developed tool that uses Google APIs to visualize seismic activity. [link]
  • Built models and used descriptive statistics to investigate “on-ramps” and “off-ramps” Michigan State University students take when pursuing a physics major.
  • Redesigned reporting application for a University of Colorado Boulder’s survey used by 50+ universities worldwide. [Example of Report]

Research Associate I

Georgia Institute of Technology, 2013 - 2015
  • Analyzed video clickstream data. Found that students attend to specific task oriented information while possibly ignoring higher order discussions.
  • Compared different student populations use of video lectures.
  • Built a social network from online course forums that could identify students and instructors based on connections.
  • Led professional development workshops for high school teachers training them to teach python in their classrooms.
